Section 1 Questions (quick knowledge)

  1. 1 teaspoon (tsp) = ___ milliliters (mL)?
  2. 1 killogram (kg) = ___ pounds (lbs)?
  3. 1 inch (in) = ___ centimeters (cm)?
  4. 65 inches = ___ feet (ft), ___ inches (in)?

Section 1 Answers

  1. 5 mL
  2. 2.2 lbs
  3. 2.54 cm
  4. 5 ft, 5 in

Section 2 Questions (these may require a basic calculator!)

  1. How many mL of Potassium Phosphate 3 mmol/mL stock solution will you need to prepare a 15 mmol IV bag? (mmol = millimole)
  2. If the same stock solution contains 4.4 mEq/mL of potassium, how much potassium will be in the 15 mmol IV bag? (mEq = milliequivalent)
  3. You need to prepare a 360 mg IV bag of gentamicin. You have a 800 mg/20mL stock vial. How many mL should you add to the bag of normal saline?

Section 2 Answers

  1. 5 mL of potassium phosphate solution
  2. 22 mEq of potassium
  3. 9 mL of gentamicin
